Newsbreak 10/14 -VMware and AWS Announce New Hybrid Cloud Service, “VMware Cloud on AWS”
Welcome to AWSMaster.com ! This site is for IT Professionals - a concise starting point for all things Amazon Web Services. I'll highlight the crucial learning tools available and the key take-aways of each platform component. The goal is to help IT Professionals integrate the AWS platform into their IT environments such that security standards are maintained and the overhead associated with on-premise workload management is minimized.

I was motivated to explore this Cloud trend back in 2014 - what is all the buzz, anyway? Well, the more I explored the services, how they were structured and interacted with each other, I knew it was a matter of time before the value proposition would overcome the obstacles to acceptance. I mean, if we can reduce or eliminate the traditional IT procurement model - minimize the upfront risk of spending large amounts of capital, waiting 6 - 8 months to have a solution installed and configured to THEN start delivering business value - then let's do it.. Certainly, there will always be on-premise requirements. Finding that balance would enable better resource utilization, minimize refresh cycles, and many other downstream benefits. I spent 18 months refreshing an Oracle Essbase environment. Don't want to go through that again. Time to value means something nowadays, and as a Project Manager I know this platform could become a game changer. The disclaimer, of course, is that there are caveats as with any emerging platform. Some applications will not directly migrate to the cloud environment without some refactoring or rewrite. Performance, integration and latency have to be managed and planned for carefully. I'll point out the gotchas and things to look out for. I'll have an evaluation roadmap page that can help your organization establish a Center of Cloud Excellence to develop an evaluation process, and its linkage with Architecture, Security and the PMO. I'll also recommend additional reading to complement and guide your decision process. Last but not least, I'll dedicate an entire section on Security Best Practices. This was one of the knowledge areas that was emphasized the most on the Exam. I welcome your suggestions - send me a message -> awsmaster2016@gmail.com.
